DescriptionShingles (also known as herpes zoster) is a painful condition, which appears as an outbreak of a rash of blisters on an area of skin and is caused by the varicella zoster virus - the same virus that causes chickenpox. Anyone who has had chickenpox is at risk of developing shingles. Shingles cannot be caught from chickenpox. Some people however, can catch chickenpox from shingles, if they have not had chickenpox before. A person usually develops shingles only once.
